Day 5:

Distance: 5 miles Elevation: 5600 - 6200 - 5700
The last day of a hike like this is a bit bitter sweet. We had a fantastic time and the good news is that we were in for one of the most incredible lakes in the world, Crater Lake.
Along the trail we got periodic views back across the countryside we had hiked, it seemed like a very long way.

Even this distance however was nothing in comparison to the journey my son had made. He and his PCT hiking partner were a day in front of us and I got a picture of the Crater Lake entry log with their entry. They had traveled just short of 2000 miles at this point.

The trail continued through Pumice Flats before reaching the trailhead.

The last portion of the trip to Crater Lake was done by horse power, as in a car. Crater Lake is one of the deepest lakes in the world and on a sunny day the water is so blue. This picture doesn’t do the lake justice and shows Wizard Island. We had lunch at the lodge which sits right on the rim of the lake.
